General Questions
Q:What types of pallets do you offer?
We offer used pallets in three grades (A, B, and C), new pallets built to order, and custom pallets in any size or specification. Our most common sizes include 48" x 40" (GMA standard), 42" x 42" (telecom), and 48" x 48" (drum pallets). We also carry specialty sizes like 48" x 45" (automotive), 40" x 40" (dairy), and can source or build virtually any size you need.
Q:What's the difference between pallet grades?
Grade A pallets are in like-new condition with minimal wear, consistent coloring, no repairs, and are ideal for retail environments and export. Grade B pallets show some cosmetic wear (minor staining, slight discoloration) but are structurally sound - they're our most popular option for warehousing. Grade C pallets are budget-friendly options with visible wear, may have repairs, but are still functional for storage and one-time use applications.
Q:Do you offer heat-treated pallets?
Yes, we offer ISPM-15 compliant heat-treated pallets for international shipping. Heat treatment involves bringing the core temperature of the wood to 56°C (132.8°F) for at least 30 minutes to eliminate pests and pathogens. All treated pallets are stamped with the required IPPC certification mark. This is required for export to most countries including all EU nations, Canada, China, Australia, Japan, and Mexico.
Q:What is ISPM-15 and when is it required?
ISPM-15 (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15) is an international regulation requiring wood packaging materials used in international trade to be treated to prevent the spread of pests and plant diseases. It's required when shipping goods internationally using wooden pallets, crates, or dunnage to most countries worldwide. Domestically shipped pallets typically don't require this treatment.
Q:Can you help me determine what size pallet I need?
Absolutely! Our team has decades of experience helping businesses select the right pallets for their applications. We'll consider your product dimensions, weight, storage systems, shipping requirements, and budget to recommend the optimal solution. Check out our detailed Size Guide or contact us for personalized assistance.
Q:What is the weight capacity of your pallets?
Standard 48x40 GMA pallets typically support 2,500-3,000 lbs for dynamic loads (when being moved) and up to 5,000 lbs for static loads (when stationary). Grade A pallets have the highest capacity, while Grade C may have reduced capacity due to wear. For heavy-duty applications, we offer reinforced pallets that can handle 4,000+ lbs dynamic loads. Always discuss your specific weight requirements with us.
Q:Do you offer plastic or metal pallets?
We specialize in wooden pallets, which offer the best value for most applications. However, we can source plastic pallets for customers with specific needs (pharmaceutical, food processing, export to certain countries). Contact us to discuss your requirements - if plastic is the right solution, we can help.
Q:What is a block pallet vs. a stringer pallet?
Stringer pallets have two or three parallel boards (stringers) running between the top and bottom deck boards - they're the most common type and can be lifted from two sides. Block pallets use blocks at the corners and middle instead of stringers, allowing four-way forklift entry. Block pallets are typically stronger and preferred for heavy loads or when full four-way access is needed.
Ordering & Pricing
Q:What are your prices?
Prices vary by grade, size, and quantity. For standard 48x40 pallets: Grade A starts around $8-12, Grade B around $5-8, and Grade C around $3-5. New pallets typically range from $15-25 depending on specifications. Custom pallets are priced individually based on design. Volume discounts are available starting at 100+ pallets, with significant savings at 500+ quantities. Contact us for a detailed quote based on your specific needs.
Q:Is there a minimum order quantity?
There's no strict minimum for pickup orders at our facility. For delivery, we recommend ordering at least 50 pallets to make delivery cost-effective, though we can accommodate smaller deliveries for an additional fee. For recurring service, we can set up a schedule that works for your needs regardless of quantity.
Q:How do I place an order?
Contact us via our website form, email (info@fortworth-pallets.com), or visit our facility. We'll discuss your needs, inspect your requirements if needed, and provide a detailed quote. Once you approve, we'll arrange delivery or prepare your order for pickup. For regular customers, we can set up standing orders and scheduled deliveries for convenience.
Q:Do you offer volume discounts?
Yes! We offer tiered pricing with increasing discounts for larger orders: 100-200 pallets typically receive 5-10% off, 200-500 pallets 10-15% off, and orders over 500 pallets receive custom pricing. Regular customers with recurring orders may qualify for additional contract pricing. Contact us to discuss your volume needs.
Q:What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, company checks, credit cards, ACH transfers, and can set up net terms for established business customers. For large orders, we may require a deposit. We'll work with your accounting department to find a payment arrangement that works for your business.
Q:Can I get a quote before ordering?
Of course! We provide free, no-obligation quotes for all inquiries. Simply contact us with your requirements (pallet size, grade, quantity, delivery location) and we'll respond with detailed pricing within one business day, often the same day.
Q:Do you offer net payment terms?
Yes, we offer Net 15 and Net 30 payment terms for established business customers. To qualify, we typically require a credit application and references. Many of our regular customers appreciate the convenience of monthly invoicing. Contact us to discuss setting up a credit account.
Q:Can I set up a standing order for regular deliveries?
Absolutely! Standing orders are great for businesses with consistent pallet needs. We'll set up a recurring schedule (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly) with agreed quantities and pricing. This ensures you always have pallets on hand without the hassle of reordering. Adjustments can be made with 24-48 hours notice.
Q:Do prices include delivery?
For large orders (typically 100+ pallets) within our primary service area, delivery is often included in the price. For smaller orders or locations farther from our facility, delivery is charged separately. We'll always provide a complete quote that breaks out product and delivery costs so there are no surprises.
Delivery & Pickup
Q:What areas do you serve?
We serve the entire Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex including Fort Worth, Dallas, Arlington, Irving, Plano, Garland, Grand Prairie, McKinney, Frisco, Denton, Carrollton, Richardson, Lewisville, Allen, Flower Mound, and surrounding areas. For locations outside our primary service area, contact us - we may still be able to arrange delivery or refer you to a partner.
Q:How much does delivery cost?
Delivery costs depend on distance from our facility and order quantity. For large orders (100+ pallets) within our primary service area, delivery is often included in pricing. Standard delivery fees for the DFW area range from $50-150 depending on location. We'll provide exact delivery cost with your quote. Pickup from our facility is always free.
Q:How quickly can you deliver?
For in-stock items, we offer same-day delivery for orders placed before noon (subject to availability and schedule). Standard delivery is typically within 1-2 business days. Large orders or custom products may have longer lead times. We'll provide an estimated delivery timeframe with every quote.
Q:Can I pick up pallets myself?
Yes! You're welcome to pick up pallets from our facility during business hours (Monday-Friday 7am-5pm, Saturday 8am-12pm). This can save on delivery costs, especially for smaller orders. Please call ahead for large pickup orders so we can have everything prepared.
Q:Do you offer scheduled recurring deliveries?
Absolutely! Many of our customers benefit from scheduled weekly or monthly deliveries. This ensures consistent pallet supply and simplifies your logistics planning. We can set up a recurring schedule based on your typical usage and adjust quantities as needed.
Q:What equipment is needed to receive a delivery?
We deliver on flatbed trucks. For large deliveries, having a forklift on-site speeds up the process significantly. If you don't have a forklift, we can provide liftgate service for an additional fee, or pallets can be unloaded by hand for smaller quantities. Let us know your receiving capabilities when ordering.
Q:Can you deliver after hours or on weekends?
Our standard delivery hours are Monday-Friday 7am-5pm and Saturday 8am-12pm. For customers with special needs (night shifts, limited dock availability), we can sometimes arrange after-hours delivery. Contact us to discuss your specific situation - we try to be flexible when possible.
Q:How are pallets loaded on the delivery truck?
Pallets are typically loaded flat (not stood upright) and secured for transport. Depending on quantity and your unloading capabilities, we may stack pallets or load them in single layers. Let us know your preference and dock setup when ordering, and we'll load accordingly.
Q:What if I need to change or cancel my delivery?
We understand plans change. Please give us at least 24 hours notice for delivery changes or cancellations. Same-day changes may be possible depending on our schedule but aren't guaranteed. There's no fee for changes with adequate notice.
Selling & Recycling
Q:Do you buy used pallets?
Yes! We purchase pallets of all grades and conditions. We buy standard 48x40 pallets, non-standard sizes, and can evaluate mixed loads. Pricing depends on pallet condition, size, and quantity. Contact us with details about your pallets (quantity, size, approximate condition) and we'll provide a quote, often within hours.
Q:What condition do pallets need to be in for you to buy them?
We buy pallets in any condition - good pallets suitable for resale, damaged ones for repair or recycling, and even broken pallets for material recovery. Good condition pallets command the highest prices, but we have uses for pallets at every condition level. No pallet is too damaged for us to consider.
Q:How do I sell pallets to you?
Contact us with information about your pallets: quantity, size(s), approximate condition, and your location. We'll provide a quote and arrange pickup at your convenience. For ongoing pallet accumulation, we can set up scheduled recurring pickups. We pay promptly upon pickup, typically by check or can set up ACH for regular sellers.
Q:Do you offer recycling services for damaged pallets?
Yes, we provide comprehensive recycling services for end-of-life pallets. We'll pick up recyclable pallets from your facility and ensure materials are responsibly processed. Wood is converted to mulch, wood chips, or biomass fuel. Metal components are separated and recycled. Nothing goes to landfill.
Q:Can you set up a regular pickup schedule for our surplus pallets?
Definitely! We offer scheduled recurring pickups for businesses that regularly accumulate surplus pallets. This keeps your facility clear, ensures consistent revenue for your recyclables, and simplifies your waste management. We'll work with you to determine the right pickup frequency.
Q:What's the difference between repair and recycling?
Repair involves fixing damaged but structurally viable pallets - replacing broken boards, damaged stringers, or loose nails - to return them to service. Recycling breaks down end-of-life pallets that are beyond repair, recovering the wood and metal materials for other uses. We assess each pallet to determine the most cost-effective and sustainable option.
Repair Services
Q:Can you repair my damaged pallets?
Yes! Our experienced repair team can fix most common damage including broken or cracked deck boards, damaged stringers or blocks, missing boards, loose or protruding nails, and compromised lead boards. Repairs typically cost 50-70% less than replacement, making it a cost-effective way to extend pallet life.
Q:What types of damage can be repaired?
We repair: broken top or bottom deck boards (most common), cracked or split stringers, damaged blocks on block pallets, missing or loose boards, protruding or loose nails, worn lead boards, and minor structural damage. Severe damage affecting multiple components simultaneously may make recycling more cost-effective than repair.
Q:How long does repair take?
Turnaround depends on volume and damage extent. Standard repairs on typical quantities are usually completed within 3-5 business days. Large volumes may require additional time. Rush service may be available for urgent needs - contact us to discuss. We'll provide an estimated completion date when you bring in or schedule pickup of pallets for repair.
Q:Is it cost-effective to repair vs. replace?
In most cases, yes! A typical repair costs $1-3 per pallet depending on damage, while replacement might cost $5-15+. If your pallet has damage limited to 1-2 boards or needs nail treatment, repair almost always makes sense. We'll assess your pallets and recommend the most cost-effective option - we won't repair pallets where replacement would be more economical.
Q:Can you pick up pallets for repair and deliver them back?
Absolutely! We offer pickup, repair, and redelivery service. We'll collect your damaged pallets, repair them at our facility, and return them in serviceable condition. This full-service option is convenient for businesses that want to extend pallet life without handling the logistics themselves.
Sustainability
Q:Are used pallets environmentally friendly?
Yes! Choosing used pallets is one of the most sustainable choices in logistics. Every reused pallet keeps wood out of landfills and reduces demand for new lumber. A typical wood pallet can be reused 7-10 times and repaired multiple times during its lifecycle. When finally retired, 95%+ of the material can be recycled into mulch, wood chips, or biomass fuel.
Q:What happens to pallets that can't be repaired?
Nothing goes to waste! Wood from irreparable pallets is processed into mulch for landscaping, wood chips for various applications, or biomass fuel for energy production. Metal components (nails, brackets) are separated and recycled. We're committed to zero landfill waste from our pallet operations.
Q:Do you provide documentation for sustainability reporting?
We can provide documentation for businesses tracking their sustainability metrics. This includes quantity of pallets recycled, estimated landfill diversion, and other relevant data. Many of our customers use this information for their ESG reporting and sustainability initiatives.
Q:How does using recycled pallets reduce carbon footprint?
Using recycled pallets reduces carbon footprint in several ways: no trees are cut for new lumber, no energy is used in sawmill processing, transportation is typically more local than new lumber supply chains, and extending pallet life maximizes the carbon captured in the wood. Studies suggest using recycled pallets can reduce carbon impact by 40-60% compared to new.
Q:Can I get sustainability reports for my company's ESG goals?
Yes! We provide sustainability documentation for businesses tracking environmental metrics. This includes quantity of pallets recycled or diverted from landfill, estimated CO2 savings, and materials recovered. Many corporate customers use this data for annual sustainability reports and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) compliance.
Q:What types of wood are used in your pallets?
Our pallets are primarily made from southern yellow pine and hardwoods common to the southern United States. These species provide excellent strength-to-weight ratios and durability. We do not use treated lumber (like pressure-treated wood) as it can be harmful in the recycling stream.
Custom Pallets
Q:Can you build pallets to custom specifications?
Yes! We build custom pallets to virtually any specification. Provide us with your required dimensions, weight capacity, entry points (2-way or 4-way), deck board spacing, and any special requirements. We'll provide a quote and typical lead time is 5-10 business days depending on complexity and quantity.
Q:What information do I need to provide for a custom pallet quote?
For an accurate custom quote, please provide: overall dimensions (length x width x height), required weight capacity, number of entry points (2-way or 4-way), number and spacing of deck boards, any special requirements (reinforced corners, notched for specific products, etc.), and quantity needed. Photos or drawings are helpful if you're matching existing pallets.
Q:Is there a minimum order for custom pallets?
For completely custom designs, we typically have a 50-pallet minimum to make the setup cost-effective. However, for minor modifications to standard sizes (adjusted dimensions, extra deck boards), minimums may be lower. Contact us with your needs - we'll work with you to find a solution.
Q:How long does it take to get custom pallets?
Standard custom orders are typically completed in 5-10 business days. Complex designs or large quantities may take longer. If you have a rush need, let us know - we can sometimes expedite production for time-sensitive orders. We recommend ordering custom pallets at least 2 weeks before you need them.
Q:Can you match an existing pallet I have?
Absolutely! If you have a pallet you need replicated, bring it to our facility or send detailed photos and measurements. We'll create matching pallets to your specifications. This is common for customers who need to maintain consistency with existing inventory or racking systems.
Q:Do you offer pallets with special features like notches or cutouts?
Yes, we can incorporate special features including: notched stringers for specific equipment, cutouts for product fit, reinforced deck boards for heavy loads, chamfered edges for smooth product handling, painted or branded pallets, and more. Discuss your requirements with us.
Business & Accounts
Q:Do you work with large corporations and enterprise accounts?
Yes! We serve businesses of all sizes, from small local operations to large corporations with multiple locations. For enterprise accounts, we offer dedicated account managers, custom pricing agreements, multi-location coordination, and specialized reporting. Contact us to discuss your organization's needs.
Q:Can you provide certificates of insurance (COI)?
Yes, we carry comprehensive business insurance and can provide certificates of insurance upon request. This is often required by corporate customers and facility managers. Simply let us know your insurance requirements when setting up your account.
Q:Do you offer vendor registration and compliance support?
We understand that many businesses have vendor registration requirements. We're happy to complete vendor registration forms, provide W-9s, insurance certificates, safety documentation, and other compliance materials. Let us know what your organization requires.
Q:Can I get regular reports on my pallet usage?
For regular customers, we can provide periodic reports showing purchase history, quantities, costs, and trends. This is helpful for budgeting, sustainability reporting, and inventory planning. Ask about adding reporting to your account.
Q:Do you serve customers outside the DFW area?
Our primary service area is the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. For customers outside this area, we may be able to arrange service depending on location and volume. We also have relationships with pallet companies in other parts of Texas and can sometimes facilitate referrals.
